Regular chassis, tri-axle chassis, and general load planning ranges.

Global Eagle Transportation Inc. works with different chassis configurations to support standard and heavier container moves connected to port and rail operations. The figures below are general planning estimates only. Final legal payload can vary based on container size, commodity, axle spacing, tractor configuration, route restrictions, and permit requirements.

Regular Chassis

Regular chassis are commonly used for standard container freight and day-to-day port and rail moves.

  • Commonly used for standard 40' container moves
  • General planning range: lighter to regular-weight freight
  • Typical legal container payload often falls around the low-to-mid 40,000 lb range depending on full configuration
  • Actual allowable weight depends on commodity, tractor, route, and legal road limits

Tri-Axle Chassis

Tri-axle chassis are used when additional weight capacity is needed for heavier container freight.

  • Used for heavier container loads than a regular chassis
  • General planning range can extend into the upper 40,000 lb to 50,000+ lb container payload range depending on setup and permits
  • Helps distribute weight more efficiently across additional axles
  • Final legal payload still depends on route, container size, commodity, and permitting requirements

Important Weight Planning

Chassis capacity is not just about the chassis itself. Legal load planning also depends on multiple operating factors.

  • 20' containers are often where heavier dense cargo shows up
  • 40' containers may cube out before they weigh out, depending on commodity
  • Container tare weight affects final available payload
  • Axle spacing, tractor setup, and road limits matter
  • Overweight moves may require tri-axle equipment and permits
